Understanding Split ShippingUpdated 2 hours ago
Wargame Portal offers Split Shipping on eligible orders containing a mix of in-stock products and pre-order, backorder, or special-order items.
When an eligible mixed cart is detected, you will be given the option during checkout to either:
- Hold Your Order and ship everything together later at no additional charge, or
- Ship What’s Ready Now using Split Shipping for an additional fee.
Your selection determines how our system handles the order after checkout.
Hold Your Order
If you select Hold Your Order, no additional Split Shipping fee is charged.
Your entire order will remain together until every item in the order is eligible and available to ship. Once everything is ready, the order will enter our normal fulfillment process and ship as one shipment.
Orders Containing Pre-Orders
Pre-order products cannot ship or be picked up before their official release date.
If a held order contains a pre-order, the entire order will remain on hold until that pre-order becomes eligible to ship, even if every other product is already available.
If your order contains multiple pre-orders with different release dates, the order will generally remain held until all of them are eligible for fulfillment.
If you need an in-stock product sooner, we recommend selecting Split Shipping at checkout or placing the products as separate orders.
Ship What’s Ready Now
If you select Ship What’s Ready Now, our Split Shipping system separates the immediately available portion of your order from products that are not yet eligible to ship.
Your in-stock items will enter processing immediately and depart without waiting for the deferred products.
The remaining pre-order, backorder, and/or special-order items will remain in our system until they become eligible for fulfillment.
An additional Split Shipping Fee is charged during checkout to cover the additional shipment.
How Backorders Work With Split Shipping
If your order contains an in-stock item and a backordered item, selecting Split Shipping allows the in-stock portion to begin processing immediately.
The backordered item will remain held while we wait for inventory from the applicable supplier.
Once the backordered inventory arrives at Wargame Portal and is received into our system, the held portion of your order will automatically release and enter our normal order-processing workflow. You do not need to contact Customer Support to have it released.
Backorder availability, restock schedules, and estimated fulfillment times vary depending on the supplier.
For complete information about backorders, please see our Backordering Items at the Portal Help Center article.
How Special Orders Work With Split Shipping
Special Order items work similarly.
If your order contains in-stock merchandise and a Special Order product, selecting Split Shipping allows the available portion to begin processing immediately while the Special Order remains held.
Once the Special Order product arrives at Wargame Portal and is received into our system, the held portion will automatically release and enter normal processing.
Special Orders are products sourced specifically for your order and have their own availability, cancellation, and fulfillment terms.
For complete information, please see our Special Order Items at Wargame Portal Help Center article.
How Pre-Orders Work With Split Shipping
If an order contains both in-stock merchandise and a pre-order, Split Shipping allows the in-stock merchandise to depart without waiting for the pre-order.
The pre-order portion will remain held until its release date.
Pre-order products cannot be released before their official release date, regardless of when the product physically arrives at our warehouse.
Once the pre-order becomes eligible for fulfillment, the held portion will automatically move into our normal processing workflow.
Mixing Pre-Orders With Backorders or Special Orders
There is an important system limitation to understand when combining multiple types of deferred products.
If the deferred portion of your Split Shipping order contains a combination of:
- Pre-order items
- Backorder items
- Special Order items
the deferred products are kept together as the remaining shipment.
For example, if your backordered product arrives before your pre-order's release date, the backordered product will not ship separately from that pre-order. The remaining portion of the order will stay held until the pre-order becomes eligible to ship.
This is a limitation of how our Split Shipping system groups the deferred portion of an order.
Your original in-stock products are still able to depart immediately when Split Shipping is selected.
Split Shipping Fees
Split Shipping requires an additional fee because Wargame Portal is creating and paying for an additional shipment for your order.
Free Shipping Does Not Cover Split Shipping
Our normal Free Shipping order thresholds do not apply to the Split Shipping Fee.
Reaching a Free Shipping threshold may make your normal order shipment eligible for free shipping, but it does not waive or reduce the additional Split Shipping Fee.
The Split Shipping Fee remains applicable regardless of the total value of your cart.
PortalPass+ Discount
Active PortalPass+ members receive 50% off the normal Split Shipping Fee.
This discount applies specifically to the Split Shipping Fee and does not otherwise change how the order is processed.
Split Shipping Fees Are Non-Refundable
Split Shipping Fees are non-refundable.
Once you complete checkout and purchase Split Shipping, the fee cannot be refunded or credited back after the order has been processed through the Split Shipping system.
The fee pays for the additional fulfillment and shipping services created by choosing to separate the order.
Can Customer Support Split My Order After Checkout?
Split Shipping should be selected during checkout when the option is presented.
The system is designed to identify eligible mixed carts and establish the appropriate fulfillment structure when the order is placed.
If you know you want your available merchandise immediately, please select Ship What’s Ready Now before completing checkout rather than choosing Hold Your Order and requesting a split afterward.
We are not able to split an order after it has been placed due to how our automated system handles the request.
In Short
Hold Your Order
- No additional charge.
- Everything stays together.
- The order ships once every item is available and eligible to ship.
- Any pre-order in the order will prevent the shipment from departing before its release date.
Ship What’s Ready Now
- An additional Split Shipping Fee applies.
- In-stock items begin processing immediately.
- Backorders and Special Orders automatically release once the applicable inventory arrives and is received.
- Pre-orders remain held until their release date.
- If pre-orders are grouped with backorders or Special Orders in the deferred shipment, those products will wait for the pre-order to become eligible.
- Free Shipping thresholds do not waive the Split Shipping Fee.
- PortalPass+ members receive 50% off the normal Split Shipping Fee.
- Split Shipping Fees are non-refundable.
Split Shipping gives you the option to receive products that are ready now without requiring your entire mixed order to wait, while Hold Your Order remains available at no additional cost for customers who prefer everything to arrive together.
